In short

Idaho Power (electric, (208) 388-2323) and Intermountain Gas ((208) 377-6840) serve the whole valley. Water and sewer depend on your city: Veolia serves most of Boise, while Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, Garden City and Middleton run their own systems. Many homes also have a separate pressurized irrigation bill for the yard. Internet choice varies by street, so check your exact address, and book your start dates 1 to 2 weeks before move-in.

Electric (Idaho Power) and natural gas (Intermountain Gas) are the same in every city. Rural homes outside city limits often have a private well and septic system instead of city water and sewer. How does pressurized irrigation work?

What is it?

A second water system for lawns and gardens. It carries untreated river and canal water, so it is not safe to drink. Using it instead of city water keeps your water and sewer bills down.

When is it on?

Roughly mid-April to early October. Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District says its typical season runs mid-April to early October. Caldwell's system turns on mid to late April and shuts off Oct. 1 to 15. Nampa's 2026 season ended Sept. 28. Dates depend on snowpack and water supply.

Who runs it?

It depends on the subdivision. Some systems are run by a city (Nampa, Kuna, Caldwell and a few Boise subdivisions), some by an irrigation district such as Nampa & Meridian, and many by the . The City of Meridian does not run any. The Boise Project Board of Control runs the main federal canal system for five districts, including Nampa & Meridian, Boise-Kuna and New York; homeowners pay their district, not the board.

How is it billed?

Often as a yearly irrigation assessment on your property, due in two halves (Dec. 20 and June 20 for Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District). Some cities and HOAs bill it monthly or as part of HOA dues. The owner is responsible even if the home is rented.
