In short
Most valley cities contract with Republic Services, but Eagle uses Hardin Sanitation and Kuna uses J&M Sanitation. Trash is usually billed by your city with water or sewer. Recycling is picked up every other week in most cities, and glass never goes in the recycling cart. Residents can drop off household hazardous waste free at the Ada County Landfill on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Outside city limits in unincorporated Ada County, Hardin Sanitation collects trash. Holiday weeks can push pickup back one day. Set carts out by 6 a.m. (7 a.m. in Caldwell). Source: City and hauler service guides (see sources)
Flattened cardboard, paper, paperboard boxes, aluminum and steel cans and foil, and plastic bottles, jugs and jars marked #1 or #2, plus #5 food tubs. It is picked up every other week.
What stays out of recycling?
Plastic bags and film, glass, foam, plastic clamshells, empty aerosol cans, electronics and hazardous waste.
What goes in compost?
Yard waste (leaves, grass, trimmings, branches cut to fit), all food scraps including meat, bones and dairy, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, paper towels and napkins. Compost is picked up weekly, all year, on your trash day.
What stays out of compost?
Any plastic, including 'compostable' plastic, compostable plates and cups, pet waste, liquids, rocks and soil, and ashes.
Extra leaves?
You can set up to 10 paper leaf bags a week next to your compost cart, about three feet away.
What is the orange bag?
Boise's Hefty ReNew program lets you collect plastics the recycling cart does not take in an orange Hefty ReNew bag, which keeps them out of the landfill. See the Boise Curb It site for how to sign up and set out the bag.
