Where to deliver, OB-GYNs, midwives and help paying

In short

Five valley hospitals deliver babies: St. Luke's in Boise, Meridian and Nampa, and Saint Alphonsus in Boise and Nampa. St. Luke's Children's in Boise has a Level IV NICU, the highest level of newborn intensive care. Idaho Medicaid covers pregnancy and up to 12 months after birth. Book prenatal care as soon as you know you are pregnant, because OB-GYN schedules fill up.

Does Idaho Medicaid cover pregnancy?

Yes. Pregnancy coverage lasts through the pregnancy and up to 12 months after delivery. As of January 2026 the monthly income limit was $2,489 for a household of 2 and $3,142 for 3. Your unborn baby counts in your household size. Apply at idalink.idaho.gov.

What is WIC?

Free healthy food, breastfeeding help and nutrition advice for pregnant women, new moms up to a year after birth, and children under 5. Ada County: apply online with Central District Health or call (208) 327-7400. Canyon County: Southwest District Health, (208) 455-5300. Medicaid and SNAP members automatically meet the income test.

Why should I book early?

Idaho has lost OB-GYNs in recent years, and West Valley in Caldwell closed its labor unit in 2024. Pick a provider and hospital early in your pregnancy, and confirm both are in your insurance network.

How do Idaho's laws affect my care?

Idaho's reproductive health laws differ from many states. Ask your doctor what they mean for you. See our laws guide.
