Hospitals, primary care and urgent care across the valley

By J&H Digital Services LLCChecked Oct 23, 202614 sources

In short

Two big systems, St. Luke's and Saint Alphonsus, run most hospitals and clinics in Ada and Canyon counties, and Primary Health runs the largest urgent care chain. In an emergency call 911; Saint Alphonsus Boise is the valley's highest adult trauma center (Level II). Check which system your insurance covers, then book a primary care visit as early as you can.

What should I know before my first visit?

How long will I wait to see a new doctor?

Often weeks, and sometimes months for a specific doctor or a specialist. The valley has grown faster than its supply of doctors. Book before you move if you can, and accept the first opening with any in-network provider. You can switch later.

Does my insurance work at both systems?

Not always. Some local plans are built around one system. Check your plan's directory before you book. See our insurance guide.

What about prescriptions?

Ask your old pharmacy to transfer prescriptions to a local one. Big chains and grocery pharmacies are all over the valley, and Terry Reilly runs its own pharmacy for patients. Bring a 30-day supply when you move in case your first visit is slow to get.

How do I find a dentist?

Use your dental plan's directory, then call to ask about new-patient openings. Terry Reilly offers dental care on a sliding fee.
