By J&H Digital Services LLCChecked Oct 23, 202611 sources

In short

Two resettlement agencies work in Boise, the International Rescue Committee and the Agency for New Americans, coordinated by the Idaho Office for Refugees at (208) 947-4296. For immigration paperwork, use a licensed lawyer or one of the 4 nonprofits recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice in Boise and Caldwell: Catholic Charities of Idaho, IRC, Agency for New Americans and Community Council of Idaho. Never pay a notario or consultant for legal advice.

What else do people ask about immigrant support?

How do I check if someone is allowed to help with my case?

Ask if they are a lawyer or an accredited representative. A lawyer must be licensed by a U.S. state bar; you can check with the Idaho State Bar. An accredited representative must work for an organization on the Justice Department's recognized organizations roster. If they are neither, do not pay them for advice.

Is free help available?

Nonprofits often charge much less than private lawyers, and some services are free for clients. USCIS forms are always free to download from uscis.gov, even when the filing fee is not.

Where can I find people from my home country?

Ask your resettlement agency or the Idaho Office for Refugees. Many cultural groups meet through faith communities, and the annual World Refugee Day celebration in Boise is a good place to meet them. See our community and faith guides.
